Has any one used burnt motor oil to pour / paint on the untreated wood of there above ground kennels or wooden dog houses? I was wondering if it would help treat the wood but also allow the stool to fall through the holes and not stick. Would the burnt oil also help with parasite and insect control? Is it unhealthy for the dogs?
We have wood at the saw mill that i know is 30 years old, if not 50, and it is completley saturated with oil grease and pine tar. The wood is almost a maroon orange color and as stong if not stronger than the day it was put in.
Thanks

I think it would protect the wood and be somewhat better than creosote for the dogs health but I am not really sure.

It should be safe for the dogs. I know people use burnt motor oil mixed with sulfur to clear up skin irritations on dogs

Yeah we do it all the time to fence post to treat them. It helps out a lot. I have also used it for hot spots on dogs. It helps a lot.
