I use the orange stake with the chain welded on it too with a cable or chain hooked to it. Never had a problem with it been using one for about 4 years now and its still holding up only problem I have is the cable or chain breaking.

i used to keep my dogs in a kennel until i moved. the most activity they did in the kennels runs was come outside and holler at me when i came home or when I went out after dark cause they get excited to go hunting, sometimes they would lay outside in the sun. now i've got them on about 10 foot chains and they like to bounce around, spin in circles, dig for gold (it's not a problem where they are so i dont care), and roll around in the dirt. BUT when they come in heat back to the parents house they go (thats where the kennel is at).

Go to the junk yard and get car axels with the hub. Pound out the lug bolts. With a maul, pound the axel in til the hub is about 10" from the ground. Make a loop around the axel so it fits loose, but still smaller than the hub. As long as the snap has a good swivel on it, the chain will never bind up.
I'd take a pic but mine are under about 15" of snow.
