Me and my dad were talking today about coondogs, and how I keep mine. on a chain. So, we are going to pour concrete and put up chainlink kennels on concrete, but heres my question. Should I broom the concrete or get it slick? and how big should each kennel be? I plan on putting 5 seperate kennels, each to hold one dog...and should the kennel itself have aroof over it, and have teh dog houses, or just have the dog houses? thanks for any help!

We have always made them smooth ,easier on the dog's pads . If funds allow put a roof and houses . The roof is a very good thing and the houses help on the cold winter wind and blowing rain .

I have always heard it the other way around. Slick finish is easier to clean but the broom finish will help keep their pads in good shape to hunt and their toenails worn down. Either way he needs to make sure he seals the contrete with a good sealer.

As for the other questions, I would not build a kennel smaller than a 5'x10'. If you can afford to do so I would put a roof over it for shade and to protect you and then from the elements. You can also run electricity out there and have lights and plug-ins if you have a roof over it.

Broom it and try and put a roof on it. make them 5X10 or 6X12 thats the best way and put your dog houses outside of the kennel and connect them to the chainlink. It will be alot easier to get around to clean.

Why not wood? Thats what we use around here..rough cut hemlock planks spaced 3/4" apart, raised so you can lime and cleanout underneath..so easy to keep clean and bleached out..lasts forever, cheap, no odor, and better for the dogs feet. I wouldnt use anything else.

That does look pretty nice skid. Did you seal the concrete?
I'll be pouring concrete for mine hopefully next week when it dries up a little. It'll be 6 runs at 5x15 for each, with a roof over everything.

I think I might go with the wood above ground method, how High should they be? and how tall inside the kennel should it be?

I have mine slick, I have dog houses and will roof within a year. I like the slick concrete, and my dogs seem to enjoy it too.

what ever you do when getting this cret poured. make sure the driver makes it wet. The water will work its way off. but if its to dry you will have a mess that you cant fix. i should know. lol. :(
