I have had some ask me questions on using a utility trailer as a dog trailer and have seen postings on various forums asking about using them as a dog trailer so I figured I would put togther an article on my utility trailer evolution into a dog trailer.

those look like some truck tires on it too, especially like the dog door on the tailgate

The door on the tailgate has come in handy.

Hey Buckshot I have been playing with the idea of building something like your set-up....after looking at yours I have some questions

with the side panels on there how do you adjust the air flow to your dogs?

is the set-up to heavy for a 4-wheeler?

being that short (6 foot) does it seem to bouce much going down old gravel roads?

with it being all black does it get hotter than a normal box?

It has rear and side air panels on the box -- the box is not mounted flush on the sides. There is space for air flow.

Trailer without box, spare, and side panels weighs I think 600lbs - the floor of the trailer is diamond plate steel like car hauler trailers.

See above on weight -- Add the box and side rails, spare tires, and dogs and it has some weight to it....if it was a light weight trailer, I can see the bouncing issue.

I ran heat test on the LineX box compared to a regular box. Here are the results:

I bought three idential thermometers - 1 for linex box, 1 for normal box, and 1 for outside temp.

Atter 3 days of checking at different times during the day, there is no difference in the linex box inside temps compared to the inside temps of the normal box.

On Tuesday, 1 reading was 2 degrees cooler in the linex box over the normal box -- that was the only incident of any difference over the 3 days of testing.

I had the box LineX back in 2008 and have had no heat related issues with the dogs and the box...........From my understanding, the LineX has a heat reducing element to it.

I had asked a guy from Diamond Deluxe about their black boxes and heat test since their's is not LineX coated but he did not get back with me.
