one of my dogs cut the pad on his foot open when he jumped out of the truck. Is it ok to keep it cleaned out with peroxide or alcohol? then cover it with some antibiotic ointment?

When my dog cut his pad the vet said to use a betadine solution rather than alcohol or peroxide. Squirt a little betadine in warm water (til it's the color of ice tea) and soak the dog's paw in it for about 5 minutes. I always put antibiotic on it afterwards, though i don't remember if she said it was necessary or not. I soak 2-3 times a day, but if you have an outdoor dog I'd do it a little more since he's going to be getting dirt and crud in it. Just what I do.

yeah he is an out door dog that gets to run loose. so i figure it will have to be cleaned a lot. He hasn't let me look at it yet but i think just by feeling it that it is a pretty big gash.
