I run curs, catahoula, BMC and Bird/Bull cross which is my best dog. Still not even 2 but covers gorund like you wouldnt believe. silent till the hog is standing eye to eye with her and shuts down if it breaks. She got the lighter end of the pit on this breeding as she tends not to catch by herself but means she doesnt pressure a hog by herself which gives my big silent BMC time to catch up and catch hold. She will run most dogs in the ground that I have and still not even be tired.

i got a buddy down here in florida who has some of the grittiest dogs i've ever seen. they are 1/4 bmc 1/4 catahoula 1/4 blue nose pit and 1/4 rhodesian ridge back. they are some of the best dogs i've ever seen on a hog. none of them well back down from a hog until its down. they are the meaniest thing to a hog but all they want from pepole is attention and to play with other dogs

I hunt hog 2-3 times a week all year long here in Texas and if you want to go with hounds I would go with the plotts. The open mouth arguement is a bunch of BS IMO, a hog knows when its being trailed wether its a silent dog or not. I perfer a yella black mouth cur but have many crosses on my yard like plott x cur, plott x Cat, and have pure plotts as well. My yella curs will go out longer on track and seem to work them faster. I use pits as catch dogs, they are a must. I dont like a rough bay dog at all that is the main reason a hog will break and run.

I agree 100%, thats pretty much how i roll too. lol

I trained my first hog dogs this year and they were smokey river blue dogs. Real gritty dogs worked out good I'm breeding my buddies smokey river bitch to my male walker they'll be ugly but they will be super dogs best of both worlds
