I've taken in a beautiful walker about 2 to 3 years old that someone probably dropped around my house. I'm out of coonhunting i was just want him as a pet. I have a underground fence around 3 acres and it won't stop him at all and he constantly runs around barking. I don't want to take him to the pound but if he doesn't settle down I'm gonna have to. Does getting them fixed help out any on settling them down ? I want him as a pet not a hunting dog but all he wants to do is hunt idk if there is anything I can do to get it out of him ?
Thanks

I have seen some dogs settle down after getting spayed/ neutered, but that isn't always the case. You can get him fixed for about $100 at most local humane society/ animal shelters. Vets are usually more $$$. I don't have any other answers other than most dogs mellow out with age...

but if he is really wanting to hunt maybe you should give him to someone that will hunt him. That is what he was bred to do, so he may not enjoy being a house dog.

He'll jump and load in a dogbox on his own so I'm pretty sure he's been hunted before
