Brown, I would just keep taking her out, your dog is only a pup. Give it time to mature and learn why its out there. The problem alot of people have is the lack of understanding in how a dog learns, their minds are not as complex as ours. When you take a pup out it takes him a while to learn to trust that you aren't gonna leave him, then he has to learn what he is hunting, and then to track and tree. It takes a little while, but given the time, and maybe a few nudges in the right direction now and then and most pups will turn out. Just take the pup to the woods, and sit quietly, and after a while the pup will get bored and start hunting. PLEASE do not whip the pup, as someone mentioned above, this will only compound the problem, because the pup will be confused as to why he is getting whipped, and then he sure won't go hunting. Good luck, and keep us posted.

My pup struck but I'm having a lil trouble with her on certain stuff such as treeing and leaving longer than 30 minutes to 45 and when she struck she came running back to me wanting me to go with her

All you need is patience, if she striking on coon and not putting it together yet there is nothing you can do. Let her try try try she will get it. I walk with my dogs sometimes, prolly shouldn't mine always end up close hunters. I've never had one strike run a track and tree in the first few times on wild coon.

Yes, do not whip shock shout throw rocks, or any other things. Your dog won't hunt, it might go hide if its smart but not hunt.
They don't teach algebra in the first grade

Ive got a 4yo Black and Tan that i have only had for a week or so, he is suppposed to do it all by himself and with pups. So far he just wants to hang around me and has even laid down. He pees on the bushes alot but when he does go out his nose is to the ground the whole time. He hasnt opened yet or treed. I have had him out with broke dogs and he wont tree with them either, just sniffes all the other dogs up real good. Even when they are treed. The previous owner says he has not gotten adjusted to a new home yet and thats why he wont hunt.

Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Just give it time and don't beat the dog for not hunting right now or it may never hunt for you

Im just trying to encourage him to hunt at this point. Should I leave the pup at home and just take the 4yo untill he starts to hunt again?

Did you see the dog hunt before you bought him?

i have seen some dogs take awhile to get used to a new handler.. but i would also keep in mind if you are just listening to what the guy that sold him to you is saying and never seen for yourself what the dog was when at his house and he was turning him loose., i have seen more times then not the dog is a dud and has never been anything close to what the guy is saying he is or was at his house.could very well be the dog would not hunt for him either so he passed him along to you.
