if your just going out with no dogs whats the best gun for a hog

When I'm on feeders I use my 308 but on the ground I use my 30.06 carbine

When hunting hogs on foot with or without dogs, you want to have a semi-auto or other type repeater for fast follow-up shots on other hogs or the wounded ones that surprised you causing a poor first shot. The AR's in .223 and semi-auto shotguns in 12 gauge are the most popular, although I have seen good sized hogs taken with .22 magnum rifles and magnum revolvers in .357, .41 and .44 magnums, I prefer a longer gun. My personal preference is a Rossi Mdl 92 brush gun in .357 with 16 inch barrel,

However, you could use a .20 or 12 gauge pump or auto, or center fire rifle in .223 or larger caliber. The carbine lengths are generally preferable or you could use any lever action or pump center fire. In my opinion, bolt actions and single shots are just too slow on second shots unless hunting from a stand or blind.
