I was looking at buying a tracking collar and I came a cross the sportdog tracking training combo. I looked at some old post on here, I was wondering if there are any new users of this collar. Should I stay with garmin? Or try the sportdog combo .

Just getting back into it, seen single collar system used on ebay for 200.

If I were to purchase the astro 220 and trashbreaker used im easily up to 600.
Not to mention, every time I would add a dog, I would have to buy 2 more collars instead of one.

Considering, I'm just starting out, do I really need top of line equipment? Worst case scenerio, I could just use it as an e collar?

Really leaning towards the sport dog tek 1.0 and up grading later to the alpha.

Anyone have some input, or is everybody pretty much using garmins because of the maps?

Ive been using the sport dog for about three months now id spend the extra hundred on a garmin the only thing the sporr dog does is tells you how many yards out your hound is the compass messes up a lot and you never know which direction your hounds in

I have an alpha if you have the money you won't be sorry and later if you decide to get out I don't think you'll have a problem selling it

I have read a little about them and saw some reviews on them when they first came out but for the hunters that have used them for a couple of years do you still have a good report on them this isn't a SportDog VS Garmin thing I just would like to know if the SportDog is holding up in the woods for the hunter I'm not a big button pusher . I have hunted in the same woods most of my life so Maps are not a desiding factor just looking for a good unit that will pen point my hounds when I'm ready to go home are one gets out of pocket and my hearing going south.

I had trouble figuring out how to get my system set up- it was set on vehicle mode so it wasnt working right. Got a manual and read the instructions:)
now it works great- no problem finding the dogs. I do wish it had the terrain maps like garmin, but the price was nice so Im pretty happy with it
