I have a problem that I'm wondering if anybody else has had. Here it is I have a dog that out of the box will stike and tree most of the time before the other dogs but after it's knocked out to him he's done and acts just like a pup while the other dogs are trailing and treeing, if they tree then he will help tree when we get there and even help fight and kill the coon but refuses to hunt anymore after that first tree. I have one idea to try but was wondering of others oppinons? He's a 15 month old redbone!

Dont let him in on the next one if he wont get in on the track, and definitely dont let him have the coon that the other dogs work for. That's just lettin him think that all he has to do is run in and bark on the tree. Tie him back and dont let him have any piece of it. Then turn him loose when you do the other dogs, if he dont hunt, tie him up again. It'll take some patience but eventually he'll figure it out.

I'm kinda havin the same problem but the other dog that is Huntin with my 3 old male is just a pup learnin knows wat a coon is. She tears up a roll cage n trees it hard. But back to my male ill cut him loose he will track n some nights he will bark on track n some nights he won't but when he trees it's normally a den tree. But after u cut him loose he acts like he just wants to go home. Unless we move woods. Then same thing happens again. N I'm Huntin him now as we speak n he's on a deer trail I'm feelin

Have you hunted him with a dog that does things right? At 3 years old it can be very difficult to straighten a dog up. It sounds to me like this dog doesn't really do much of anything. I'm no expert by any means but this sounds like a dog that needs culled JMO

I have had a similar problem with my redbone. I got her back into the swing of things by taking my other dog daisy out and treeing a coon, then pull her off and went back for my redbone. I walked her on a lead on daisys exact trail. half way to the tree she started barking so i congradulated her and let her off the lead. She got to the tree, i shot it out and she gradually got better ever since. It may not work the first time but it is worth a try!
