I have a year old female bluetick and I've taken her hog hunting and dove hunting and she's recently started to attempt to track deer trails, but how do I properly train her to run and track deer?

You'd be better off going to a site more suitable and geared for running hounds as this site is a coon hunting site. The deer threads on here are for BREAKING them from running them. LOL

Try http://www.speeddogs.net as these guys run their hounds on foxes and deer.

never understood how they use dogs to hunt deer. Do they herd them back to the hunters? wouldn't you want a collie then? lol

I been running deer with dogs all my life the best way to train a pup is ride them around and spotlight a deer and then take the dog and drop it right where the deer was and after a few times of doing this take your dog early in the morning to the woods and find a fresh deer track that maybe 30 mins old or an hour and let the dog trail this track and jump the deer , you can find out what kind of dog you have this way being a blue tick they should be a natural trail dog and trail dogs are worth a lot more money then a cast or jump dog hope this helps .
