I have a 14 month old b and t pup that was hunted a bit with other dogs. Her training has been off amd on because I got a dog to comp hunt. But before she was put up for a month or 2 she was treeing with dogs gd and split treeing. I started really hunting her about two weeks ago. first night she put one in a trash pile, i got it out let it go up a tree then shot it, the next time she went out 150 yards, struck and treed with a coon. Shot it out. Next night she ran the woods, but no tracks. Next time she treed 180 yards up a big tree but it was to leafy to find anything. Then I walked her to the woods and she opened before I even got the lead off, she ran the track about 10 yards and had a coon, I shot it out. Ever since then it's like she's gone dumb, she usually hangs around at and rarely goes more then 60 yards from me. Did the close coon ruin her? What should I do to get her back to really hunting?

a shocking collar will keep one from hunting as deep, and i know a guy that will shoot out the coons to his dog after short tracks. he wonders why he dog doesnt have the coon 90% of the time he does get after one and has to actually trail it. that dog doesnt put enough pressure on it to put it up before a den tree. i dont shoot those coon shot out beside the truck or any short hot track, they get used to running the woods passing over older tracks, looking for the hot tracks.

The first thing you did wrong is get a coon out of a brush pile..You should never do that. (If your trying to train a dog the right way)...You should just lead your dog away and go to a new area..If not everytime they tree in a wood pile or hole in the ground. You will have to go get them/Maybe even dig them out of a hole in the ground.Over the years my buddys have had that happen many times..They even lost a few in holes...You also have to be carefull knocking to many coons out to a young dog..With some dogs they get so they stay close by.Just because you knock coon out to them....Her hormons could also be messed up that happens a lot with females coming into and after going out of heat...Thats why a lot of guys dont like hunting females.....She sounds like she needs hunted alone...Try that and see how she does for a month ot two...
