wilcox is not a "breed". he is a man in Michigan that raises english hounds. look in the magazines and in ads on here and on UKC site to find pedigrees with wilcox in them. see what kind of blood has produced winners when mated with wilcox dogs. the wilcox dogs go back to junior, dickey's old sandy, and bates blue kash, among others. wilcox to woodstock has thrown some winners.
I not sure exactly what your wanting to know. But The wilcox bloodline is owned and Started by Mr. Larry Wilcox. It is heavy Beashers blue boy II (jr) among alot of other great hounds. The Rooster or Neuse river blood as some call it is also Jr bred for the most part. The thing is most people call rooster a bloodline when really its not he was just one dog that was bred to alot of females. He is not one of the founding english of the breed. However he has giving alot to the breed he has also givin some junk to. I would say that the wilcox blood should cross good with just about any bloodline out there. Like I posted in another thread. All of todays english hounds will go back to alot of the same dogs. 5 or more generations back.
if you like the neuse river blood, it doesn't have to come from MI swamprooster. VA swamprooster is from same sire and dam and he was much more selectively bred. cabin creek pukin is by the same sire as those two dogs, she was bred to some great reproducers and i like to see her in a pedigree.
Showmecoon I agree 100% with you on Virginia Swamp rooster being a better choice of the two. I personally feel that Mich swamp rooster is way over rated in most cases. I always try my best to have english that does not have him period in there pedigree.

it is hard to find any that dont have him in their ped, but that is a good choice. i will allow his genes in my kennel but only in matings with well bred females, preferably grntch females. he is a good example of why a stud dog should not have 3,000 pups.
Its not to hard to find ones that dont have him. If you hunt the right bloodline. We have to grown hounds and two pups that dont show him period in 10 generation. Linebred Sonny.

I GUESS YOU DIDNT GROW UP WHEN HE WAS BEING HUNTED OR CAMPAINED! THAT IS NOT AT ALL TRUE ASK SOME OF THE OLDER GENTLEMEN THAT HAVE HUNTED WITH HIM (INCLUDING ME!). VA. SWAMP ROOSTER COULDNT HOLD A CANDLE TO MICHIGAN SWAMP ROOSTER. MICHIGAN ROOSTER HAS PRODUCED A TON OF TITLED DOGS! GOOD AND BAD IN ALL LINES

it is true that MI swamprooster has produced the most titled hounds, with over 3,000 pups he should have the most titled offspring, but he has a low percentage of titled offspring. a son of VA swamprooster named Hardtime swamp cat still holds the highest percentage of titled offspring. they are both legendary hounds, but by the numbers, VA swamprooster looks better to me. to each his own, i have both MI and VA in mine, but prefer to see the VA swamprooster. hey, i thought this thread was about wilcox hounds, not swamprooster dogs.lol
not trying to say hes a bad hound hell my pup outback has him in his ped but my buddy an older gentlemen said he hunted with the dog in a nigh hunt and just stood round ur feet all night ...again thats wat ive heard not sayin hes a bad dog every dog has good and bad features and all breeds have good an bad lines
Im not here to argue or start anything, but don't you think that a dog that has bred out over 3000 pups would have to be worth something. Why would that many people breed to him if he wasn't a good dog...??? Just saying...

Jim has raised some nice hounds. just talkin

Well all I know about mi swamp rooster is a friend of mine hunted with him up in Michigan, and in 2 nights he treed 10 times, only one coon and a bunch of empty trees to show for it. Just cause a dog is bred a lot don't mean it should be
