I had a dog bit by a copperhead this summer. I put kerosene on it until i could get him to the vet the next morning. when i took him to the vet she said that kerosene was the best thing i couldve done because it stops the poison from spreading. i keep a pint size whiskey bottle with kerosene in my truck now during the snake months.

It sounds simple but it works. My father-in-law who is 78 years old and has hunted all his life told me to feed the bitten dog a mixture of bacon grease and a couple of raw eggs. I was skeptical of its' effectiveness but have had several dogs that were bitten by a snake and swelled up bad. Within several hours after giving the dogs the grease/egg mixture the swelling subsided and the dogs were on the mend. I know that many of you may be skeptical like I was but I guarantee you it works. Good luck and happy hunting.

Would the fur around the snake bite fall off at first? when we came home 2 weeks ago one of our dogs was laying under the bronco and he wouldn't move for anything. He was soaked though from the rain so we know he was coming home in the rain and we thought maybe he got struck but lightning or kicked by a cow, but now it looks more like a snake bite. I found what look like fang marks and his leg was swollen pretty bad but has gone down now. and is just swollen around the shoulder area and where the "fang marks" are at
