Dollar is her baby i tell you those snakes are bad i just killed a big copper head about a week ago lucky i got it before it got a dog. And lets just hope dollar don't turn out like a dog my buddy had he had one that got bit just like she did well he over came it. But when he started back hunting him he could just make one tree then his head started swelling bad. He loved a coon more then anything but was just good for one tree had to let him go so i hope that don't happen to dollar. Hey take care and yell at me sometime.

Benadryl ASAP is the way to go. We got 4 dogs bit in one trip last year. The Benadryl helps contain the bodies natural allergic reaction to the snake venom. The same is true if a person gets bit. It is basically a really really bad bee sting. It is a good idea to keep some on you at all time while hunting in snake country.

I live in GA. I hunt beagles. Its not uncommon for one to get snake bit. At least one a year, whether its mine or a buddy. Load em up with benedryl. Haven't lost one yet. Usually just takes a couple of days to get over it.

Any kind of benadryl will work. The liquid is supposed to work faster. The gel caps are probably the best, they are liquid, but they are also easy to give the dogs.

So 4 or 5 if the gel caps and the dog will be fine? That's way better than that 500 dollar shot from the vet.

It really depends on the dogs allergy to snake bites and the particular snake that bites them. This can only help though. I usually give them one or two pills in the field and then one when I get them home. I will give them another one the next day.
