I have 100 books or more on dog training aloan that I have bought over the years. I could had saved a lot of money if I had just went to the library and checked them out. There will be some you will want to buy and use like a bible but you can check them out and read them first. If they don't have it they will get it for you most of the time. I was glad to see The Walk with Wick books are worth so much. Mine are hard backs like new except for all the high lighted lines and bent over corners. You may want to check out some man tracking books too. It is pretty much the same in the begining. You could even teach them to track a man draging a coon scent drag so they get a reward from the one they are tracking. The reward could be tuging on a coon hide. You could even have the guy climb a tree and tease it from there. If the dog has game it would learn to track and tree at the same time.

I would buy Wlk with Wick to to start with. Thats what i did. it has some great tips in there, but i do understand where hound didnt find it usefull.. alot of the book is letters that john recived over the years and have very specifc problems that people have had with their dogs. the other half is really good though. it also has a section about coon hunting in general. like equipment etc. Im in the process of finding another book to. I would just buy one and act like its the only one out there. get as many diffrent opinoins i can get. but wicks is a great place to start.

good hunting

Is the second edition of walk with wick not as good or something because nobody ever really mentions that one?

Take these guys advice. I am brand new with my first pup and I got vols 1 and 2 and I am sure I woulda ruined my pup had I not. If ya just gonna get one of em I'd say get vol 1. But better hurry Wick's is closin down soon and ya can get it there for 34 bucks plus shipping. I tried to get one at our booksamillion here and they said it was no longer in print and that they could get me a used copy for around 175 bucks!! Sure glad Wicks didn't get gone before I got mine..... :)

i dont think that they are going out of business because i heard there is gonna be a volume 3. you can get the book for 39.99 look at the home page of this site and go to the address that tells you about the book.

Wick's already went out of business. WOW is no more. Linda Wick and her daughter shut it down for good a few months back.

You don't have to have a business to write books so Vol III he has been working on is still a possibilty..........Vol III will not be a training book rather a hound story book -- a collection of hound stories submitted to him.

The reprinted Vol 1 and Vol II can be still be a bought from hound supply companies that sell them.

The orginal Vol I is the one that can be pricey.

I'm sure you've thought of this but youtube.com is a good place to find free stuff...I found a good night hunting video on calling coons, etc...not one with hounds yet...there are alot of them in the Nite Lite catalog but they're a bit spendy...The video I have is called "hunting the night shift" and it's based in Texas but like I said, no hounds there...I've been looking too but so far have only found the spendy hound videos...
