SgtMike I will agree with everything you said about the nylon 66, and I use one most of the time myself and love it. However there are drawbacks to it to. Its a much more difficult rifle to break down and clean than say the 10-22. Also they are no longer in production so parts are somewhat more difficult to come by though I have been able to get what I needed.

ill agree with ya on that, parts are sometimes scarce. there are people out there though that sell parts for them though, we've had to order a few cocking levers over the years where its made out of plastic, sick feeling to get to a tree and see those eyes and go to load it and cant!!! haha i wish they'd bring them back in production, id like to have a brand new one

I built a custom 10/22 that only weighs little ove 4lbs. I will try and post pics tomorrow.
sgtmike777, you can still buy brand new still in the box Nylon's, off of gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com, from time to time. But, let me forewarn ya they ain't cheap that way most of the time; but, you can get deals on slightly used ones on those sites all the time.

.22 savage bolt action. not real expensive or fancy but it gets the job done everytime.

I have a 10 22 but I end up taking a single shot 22 my grandfather used. I shoot subsonic draws less attention.

I use a lightweight 22 over 410 guage. I've found this works great up here in upstate ny. sometimes the old coons wont look at you but you know about where they are. If you dump a 410 birdshot in their direction it gets their attention, then you can finish em with a 22. It's got a plastic stock and forearm very light weight. Also with the 410 you can bring home an occasional rabbit or grouse!!

Ruger 10/22. Sometimes I get nostalgia and use my old Marlin 22 singleshot, it was my first rifle. Kinda small stock but I never really put it down for long so I don't notice the length unless I try to.
For some real old school, I use a vintage blackpowder double barrel that I reconditioned a few years back. Many moons ago, me an some pickin partners of mine would play music for a spell after eating supper, and then go into the dark after the coon an we all used smokepoles. Good times there.
