If you had to choose from a .308, .30-30, .30-06, for mule deer, which would you choose?

They are about the same ballistically, the .308 is a short action cartridge and the .30-06 is a long action. You'll get good results with both.

i think the 308 is a flatter shooting round.....the us military use's the 308 for there snipers. some military is switching over to the 300 mag/s... the 308 has moderate kick with power speed and penatration...nice round to reload..lots of nice combos..the '06 does nicely too.

USe which gun you can shoot the best. Know where it wil hit at any distance, and become proficient at shooting from any position. Also, the most expensive shells are not always the best.

A friend of mine trades guns about twice every deer season. When he misses a deer, or wounds one he blames his gun, or his shells.

He got the idea that one of the new WSM's would solve all his problems. He bought 1 box of shells($28.00+), and asked me to sight it in. I said i would. He then insisted that i get sighted it in just a couple shots.

You czan tell just how good he was gonna be with it.
