I have had my dog since January. This is the first coon hound ive ever had and ill tell you what, i just love her to death! She is such a good dog!

So anyways, even though i did my research on coon hounds before i got my dog i guess i just kinda thought each breed (black and tan, red tick, blue tick....etc) was only bred with that matching type. I guess i was wrong! My dogs mother was a red tick but her father was a black and tan.

I guess im wondering if anyone else has the same type, bred the same, having a mother redtick and father black and tan, and getting a redbone out of it. And is this normal in breeding coonhounds? Im not so educated on the breeding part as i would like to be i guess.

Obviously every dog is going to be some what different, but i was wondering if anyone could tell me how big their redbone is! After doing my research, Ive kind of noticed that each breed has been a different size. Any other information that you guys would like to share would be much appreciated! Thanks! :)

What you have is an english/black and tan cross...not a redbone. A redbone is a distinct breed not a color. You also mentioned redtick as a breed and it is a color of an english hound.
