I was just wondering if everyone in tn , is seeing alot of coons. I have been out of coon hunting for the past 2 years. When i got out we could shine a light in a good spot and see three or four coons in a tree, now i havent even seen any cross the road or run over. We arent hunting in big river bottoms so i know there is coons but we aren't seeing them.

I think we have another great crop of coons this year here in Crockett Co. I have been coon hunting for 31 years now and in the last few years it seems we have coons everywhere. In years past a hunter was doing good to kill 5 or 6 coons a week. Now it seems if u hunt a week u can average about 10 to 15. Theres one thing here in West Tenn. I think that's going to hurt us if there is no change. Our season opens in September and runs until the end of Febuary, I think it must be shortened. Because in the months of late december, January and Febuary the coons are breeding or already have been breed. So when we kill a sow in these months it's only hurting next years crop. I think from September to about the middle of December should be it for kill season.

Yeah i think thats the problem here, that and a few years back when i got out of hunting a bunch of young boys was hunting here and they were just catching coons and killing them. I'm a firm believer in not really shooting em out unless you have a young pup thats just learning, or maybe one every blue moon to keep dogs from getting burnt.

Up here in east tn we was treeing alot of coons when the mountain grapes was in and was acrons was around. But no its hard find any mash up here in these mountains. Coons getting few and far between up here now cause that.

We hunt up in Fentress County and every time we hit on one, they'll run it 800 to 1000 yards every time. But we atleast tree once every night we go. It's a lot of hit and miss tho.
