I hunted Phelps and little known Merrimac WMA this year when I could, I never saw another hunter or truck parked at night there and dropped twenty coons on the dog, treed maybe 15 more we left for next year. Had a ball, only went twice we didn't tree anything the whole season. Both my dogs tested positive for lymes disease tho and even in february with snow on the ground I was findin ticks on the dogs. If you guys hunt there get the lymes vaccination first.

Those are some pretty Redbones you have Charlotte, if I could figure out how I would post some pics of my dogs Ruby (bluetick/mtn cur mix) and little orphan Annie (a fat jack russell that loves a coon fight) I call them the dynamic duo, they look a little odd but get the job done and a pleasure to hunt.

The closest club now is the one in Culpeper. The Manassas club and the Summerduck clubs have shut down.

Phelps gets hunted pretty hard by about 6 different groups, You may want to talk to the manager at Merrimac as I was told you couldn't hunt on it unless you were drawn to hunt.

after deer season goes out merrimac can be hunted without permit. like jan 5 to march 18 I think this year. If your dog gets across Cedar Creek and onto Quantico Marine base that would be a big problem. I hunt in Phelps and tree coon everytime, there are tons of tracks in there but you gotta walk some. Phelps is big, 5500 acres, so I'm sure others are hunting it but probably where the access is easier. walking 3 miles is about average Phelps hunt. I wear leather jacket and briar chaps because man it is thick in there.
