I have been trying to trap a coon to let a young dog get some treeing experience. I heard that honey buns are the best bait. I used a honey bun and this morning the biggest possum I've ever seen was chowing down on a honey bun. Is there any bait that anyone has used that doesn't trap possums?
Thanks,
Logan

If possum is hungry and happens upon the trap, good chance he'll go in no matter what bait you put in. Try oreo cookie or small piece of honeybun with vanilla extract poured on it or grape koolaid powder.

I have an animal nuisance permit and have trapped I don't know how many varmits over the years. Possums will eat any bait placed in the trap. If I am trapping coon, I try to put a less possum attractive bait in the trap.

LOL, for me peanut butter is what I USE to catch possums when I am strictly trapping for them. Works better than sardines and catfood.

I guess our Possums/Coons have different taste in Arkansas. Anything with a stinch to it will catch a possum such as sardines, tuna, etc. If it is sweet or doesn't have that rotten smell will have sucess with coons. Peanut Butter has not failed me yet for catching coons around here, maybe you need to change brands I use peter pan that is there favorite.

 That's the possum favorite brand here. I think they like creamy and crunchy about the same, LOL

Around here those possums will eat anything that is in the trap. Peanut butter seems to be their favorite. I use that primary for possums.

I had a live trap set out in one of those high dollar subdivisions for a fox and I placed a fresh dead mouse in the trap that night, came back the next morning and the dead mouse was gone and a ole possum in the trap.

I think if you threw a dirty diaper in a live trap you'll catch a dang ole dirty possum.
