There are as many different baits used as there are people who trap coon. I usually use a slice of bread w/peanut butter and top it w/dog food. My brother went to set our trap once, and forgot the bait. He put a couple halls cough drops in there, and we had a coon next am. Coon are so nosy, I think they will go in there after anything shiny or that smells good.

I went to set a trap to catch a nuisance coon for a guy last week. I only took dried cat food with me. When I go there, I saw he had about 10 cats running around. I left the trap set, but unbaited. I planned on returning the next morning to bait it with something that would not catch his cats. When I got there, there was a coon in the trap.

I like using the cheap packs of dog food from walmart thats mixed with gravy. I also use honey buns and pour molases from the dollar general on top of it. I also would suggest talking to your local animal control officers around your town. They give them to me for free and they even meet me half way. I get about 2 or 3 coons a week from them.. just a thought.
