I use a variety of marshmellows, peanut butter, honey buns and dry dog food

Use sweet stuff. I have had my best luck using a combination of marshmellows and peanut butter. I make a small trail of marshmellows leading into the trap and them put a small pile of marshmellows covered in pb.
One of my friends has good luck using dog food, he catchs a few skunks and possums in-between coons though.
If you use stuff like tunafish you are going to catch a lot of skunks, house cats, and possums.

I was trying the cans of catfood. caught only cats and possums. honey buns might work better.

I use dog food mixed with Bar-B-Q sauce. Works pretty good.

They like sweet and they like smelly. The fish is a good idea but sardines might be a bit cheaper and smellier than tuna. They like maple syrup, jelly, marshmallows, cookies, honey buns. The stuff with the stronger smell will bring them in from further away. They like the bones and leftovers from your turkey or chicken dinner too but so do fox and coyote.

If the weather is warm, I would avoid using meat or fish as the maggots and bugs will have it gone in short order. If that's not a problem, though, I used to have a pet coon and she would walk past anything you offered her to get a piece of fried chicken.

White bread or stale biscuits work for me.
