i have lost two traps in the past two weeks in the same hole trapping for rats...it is a above hole set...i have lost a foothold becasue the chain broke...and last night my body grip went missing...the stake was still in the ground but the whole trap was missing? what animal could drag away a body trap???

Sounds to me like someone is borrowing your traps. When a trap is gone it could be a person or animal but I have never had 2 traps gone at the same place by animals it has always been people for me.

I agree usually when I have traps go missing its a two legged varmint that has them.

They might not have seen all 6. That's just a suggestion. If you have it wired off good am animal won't take it that's when u know a person has taken them.

But a body trap could have killed an otter that's what I don't get

Id bet on a 2 legged varmint, similar to a possum. They are everywhere but aint worth much. What size body grip? I was reading a post Trapperman.com awhile ago where a guy had an otter take off with a 220 or 280 cant remember which it was. He found the otter a couple yards away.

my best friend had an otter take a 220 90 yard down the bank last year the only reason he found it was cause the chain got caught up in a root wad the otter was still alive i have another friend i run traps with he caught 2 otters last week they were both alive still in belisle 330's otters are one tough critter

I'd have to agree, i've never seen a coniver come up missing unless a two legged thief took it, double stake it, if it comes up missing again time to do some camera work to catch this"critter"

you said the stake was still in the ground. I assume you mean the chain was held by the stake right? so if the stake was still in the ground, and a the chain on the body trap wasn't broken too, then wouldn't somebody have to pull the stake, take the trap, then jam the stake back down? an animal couldn't do that no matter how big or smart. to actually pull the trap and replace the stake? ive lost a ton of traps both to people and animals. but never like that. keep us posted if ya figure anything out. good luck
