I will second that. They don't sell good traps at farm stores. Order a Duke from F&T Trading post. Dukes are not even the best, but better than the TSC traps.

I would find it very hard to train a hound using a trapped coon in a dog proof trap. How do you release it from the trap without getting torn apart? How do you lay a scent trail with one trapped in a dp? I would like to see you drag a coon around in one of those and hang it in the tree while it's alive. Just my opinion, but the traps you are talking about are for hide trappers.

Dog proof traps are the way to go a little jack mackerel for bait and there ain't a coon that can resist sticking his paw in it. As for training purposes you use a catch stick to put them in a cage they'll put up a little fight but nothing you can't handle.

I am a fur trapper and have released hundreds of live coons over the years from footholds. Mostly because they had lesser quality hides. All u need to do is hold em down wit a stick or ur boot.grabe them by the scruff with a good pair of gloves. Then you can release them, and put them in a sack or cage or on a rope, whichever training method u prefer. A live trap is a lot easier and less stressful on u and the coon though. Lol

I've been using the TSC trap while training my pup and ut is doing just fine. Worst case I have to adjust the set bar after dragging it around the yard and it getting bounced off the tree.
