well I started my TC KENNEL ON STEROIDS TODAY. Same principle as the ones TC showed on his pics but I went larger. It's 8' wide by 16' long. I got them framed up today and will be working on them this week. Can't wait. I had to use extra supports in the middle and I used an extra 4x4 in the middle on both sides. I'm going to use green metal roofing on them so they match my other buildings. i'll post some pics when I'm done. It's funny all my hunting buddies up here in NY think I'm nuts for building them like this but It's a no brainer....
I just completed my two new kennels. they are TC inspired designs. I made them 8x16 feet. I had to add some extra bracing but it's the same idea. I framed in dog houses in the corners. I insulated them with r-30 in the walls and two layers of celotex underneath. I then put green metal roofs on them so they would match my other buildings. I also incorporated the patent pending (ha Ha) stool catching system underneath. The droppings and urine drain into a gutter and then a catch basin that is emptied weekly. i hose down the stool ramp daily. great system no stink. i sprinkle lime around the edges on the ground to help with the urine. i put a horse mat in the corner of each one so the dogs can just lay out if desired.. I have about $700 invested in each one. All pressure treated lumber for the framing and trim. TC is a genius...... I'll never use anything else....
super job, you did a real find job.you put some thought into them for sure, very nice. they will last you for years to come. you will find they are well worth the effort and investment.
Thanks TC those comments mean alot coming from you. I feel like we all should pay you a fee for the patent rights!!!! And you were right I.m starting one next week for one of my hunting buddies. I'm going to work with him to get it done... Thanks again TC.
all said and done i have about 300 in each, but that is with the metal coated house i buy already made.they are around $100 bucks each depending on size. the smaller house your dog fits in the warmer it will be in the winter. you can build them alot cheaper if you look around for scrap lumber and materials.you don't have to use piano hinges and gravaty latches.any kind of hinges and latch will work fine. you can use used fence, build your own house or make the ones you got fit. these can be made fairly cheap if your willing to pull a few nails out of used wood and rip old used 2 x 4s for the floor. the roof can be plank wood.anything you can think of to save on.old barn wood or what ever. i once used petrefied 4 x 4s for legs, had to drill pilot holes to nail to them .
Tri color....Is that 2x2's on the floor what is the spacing between them

those are 2x4's ripped in half. It was cheaper to buy 2x4 and rip then to purchase the 2x2's. However I have a friend with a band saw mill and we ripped 60 of them in 10 minutes. It's very hard to do 1 at a time on a table saw. Just to let you know.
