I was gonna chain my female up and was wondering how many people do it? How do you know when she is coming in heat? how long do you have before she is breedable, like if she starts to come in heat and i dont catch till a day or two could she get pregnant? Can somebody post some pics of chain setups?

Thanks

All of my female dogs are in kennels So that don't happen. I keep track of when my dog is due in heat. this has always work, but a few months ago one of my females came in before she was due. I was hunting her at this time and kept woundering why the males kept fighting they had always got along good. needless to say i had her tied out on a runner and stepped outside to find my pit bull knotted with her. They are pretty pups. plott and pit bull. All brindle. keeping 2 to see what they will do on bear. hope i helped.

Thats one reason I keep my dogs in kennels. Another reason is that every now and then a pack of strays will wander the local roads. This way I know my dogs are safe from anything that might wander through the yard at night, be it strays or coyotes.

I keep all my females in kennels now but have had them on chains and had no problems just lift up their tail every nite and check to see if their getting swollen because the time they start bleeding they have been in heat for a while

I ALWAYS THOUGHT OF IT IN A 21 DAY CYCLE AND THAT IT HAD TO START RUNNING A LITTLE CLEAR AND THAT WAS AFTER ABOUT 7 DAYS AND SHE WOULD TAKE FOR 7 AND THEN 7 MORE SHE WOULD SMELL RIGHT AND NOT TAKE BUT I HAVE BEEN WRONG ABOUT ALOT OF THINGS IN MY LIFE BUT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS WENT BY AND IT HAS ALWAYS WORKED

I've got 2 females in a kennel and one on a chain and none fixed. In the kennel I have wire top and bottem. The female on the chain should be coming in to heat anytime and I check her alot during the day and constantly watch for strays. I have already made arrangements when she does come in to take her to a friends spare kennel. I also wrote on the calender when each dog came into heat the last time so I have a good idea when due again. Soon hopefully I will have all in a kennel but until then I pay close attention!!! I realize a fools way of doing with a female not spayed but it's what I have to do for now so I take the extra time watching closely!
Oh and no, it seems obvious why don't I just switch dogs...one in the kennel is a Malamute and can't be out on a chain and would maybe fight if a change. Not sure but not worth the chance.
