i think kennels are much better and especially raised kennels because of the cleanliness and dogs health is better.

I keep mine on chains right now but am gonna put them in a kennel when we move back to our old place.Its all woods around my house now and my kennels are at my old place so when we end up selling our house we'll go back over there.The mother to my walker was one of the best coon dogs around and got strangled on a chain after being on the chain in the same spot for 7 years so chains are dangerous but kennels are more expensive but safer.
