i like how you did that...how big are the runs and how bigs that building and their actual houses?it looks pretty nice and i think il try it.but for my buildin you think i could use those fence pannels off of those big wooden fences?

Those fence panels are 5' by16', I cut them down to 12', and used the extra piece for the end of the run, so they're 12' by 4' approx.
I think the building is 8' by 6' approx. the two boxes inside are just big enough for the dogs to stand in, and I lined them with old carpeting.
I built the shed out of two huge pallets I grabbed from work. All I had to buy was the fence panels (tractor supply), and two sheets of particle board for the roof, oh yeah, I put some foam insulation on the inside. I had a couple packs of shingles laying around. Now that its cold, I tarped off the runs, and packed straw in the runs and barrels. The dog boxes have doors on the inside, which I leave open so they can get out the back into the fenced area, so I don't have to clean out the runs. I ran an extension cord out there, and use an electric water bowl, a light bulb, and a homemade heater box. It sounds complicated, but it's almost maintenance free. I'm glad you like it, post pics when you build yours.

i was driving by a place today and they had 30gal pickel barrels for sale and it got me thinking. if i cut the end out of a 50gal drum put the 30gal drum inside i could stuff insulation between them cut holes in both and glue the end back on the 50gal drum. sounds like a warm cheap dog house to me!

I use a plastic drum. When I cut it I just left a little lip so the bedding would stay in. I change his hay about once a month and he seems to like it pretty well. When it gets pretty cold like this last week when we got 8 inches of snow I put quite a bit of loose hay in and he covers up in it. To keep it from slidding around I just dug a little pit in the shape of the drum, sat the drum in, and put the dirt from the hole on the sides of the drum.
