heres my two junkers, both homemade. first one is a permanent fixture pushed up against the headache rack of the flatbed. other one i made a few years ago from tongue and groove barnwood. both heavier than hell but warm and sturdy. LOL. shot both with armour coating so should last a long time.

mines made out of metal and really hard plastic.... metal frame made of angle iron and metal grate for the sides where it sits above the bed of my truck, and on the front where u let down the tailgate, also made of metalgrate the door is too. the top is made from a hard plastic thats about 2 inches thick and the top has ridges on it like diamond plate the back is also made of that too. and yesit is heavy, estimated 500 pounds, no exageration... my dad made it,we set it off the truck to weld some more pieces on and it took our tractor to load it back on. this is just my deer hound box, and me made it that heavy cuz were normally running bout 60 mph on dirt roads, and when u hit a bump that fast light dog boxes have been known to pop up and slam back down either letting hounds escape or crushing their feet which i dont like, the dog box i use for coon hunting is a bought one made by heritage dog boxes

Here is mine they are around 20 years old and only thing that has ever been replaced is the board on the front. We put two grown hounds in each easily.

JMO one of the most important things is to not make your boxes to big. This is more of a safety tip. If you have a big ol'e box with lots of room for your dogs and get into even a minor accident, it gives the dog more room to slam around and get hurt. Unless your driving across the country or thru PA latterally go with a smaller design.
