I'm thinking of buying a Springfeild XD in a 45 cal. for a concealed carry and home defense weapon. I was just wondering if any of you own one and have any comment, good or bad.

Agreed too big for concealed carry. For carry and home I recommend a S&W Airweight 38 or a Baby Glock 40.

I cary the springfiels xd service model and I love it. Mine is in a 40. The rounds are cheaper and it is more user friendly. The service model is a little bigger than the compact or the sub compact but it fits my hand better. My opinion is to put all three sizes in your hand and find which best fits you. I carry mine in a serpa holster with a paddle rotated slightly forward and do not have much printing at all. So you should not have any problem with the compact or subcompact. For the money the xd is great. Ive put alot of rounds through mine and have hade NO problems. My opinion, pick the caliber best for you, pick the size that best fits your grip, then worry about printing. Like i said, my service model has very little printing in slightly loose clothes. The tacticle i believe is slightly larger than the service model so it will print more. The service and tact model both have the same size grips so I picked the service due to size and less printing.

I Also have the XD 40 cal. service model and absolutely love it. Could not imagine buying anything but an XD from now on.

Thanks for all the info. I don't think the size will be an issue seeing I'll probably only care it when hunting or in the truck when me and the family go on trips. I won't really care it every day seeing how I'm around the schools and ball feilds alot.

i have a springfield xd45, and i love that pistol. it shoots good, very durable. hardly any recoil, but i will tell you this now, shooting it without earplugs is a BAD idea, VERY LOUD lol. i would definitely invest in a springfield xd or xdm 45 acp, great guns.
