I second that on the sub sonics I use a 10/22 with rem. subsonics, for coon and some times use the same for squirrel, but most of the time for tree rats I use a 22 mag it gives me a little more range and I can pop a yote and not have to worry much about finding it. Long as you hit the squirrel in the head it dosent mess the meat up. I have never used a 17 for coon but I have taken a squirrel with one and it was a mess. Heres a pice of some northern ky tree rats taken with the 22 mag I guess in a pinch I would use it on coon.
