i was wondering what others say is better for doing less damage to the hides. i am new to the email forum but i have been hound hunting since i was 6 years old and i am now 21 and have a male walker rig dog that rigs coons out of the box and walks hunt extremely well. my dog's name is Pork and he is not registered because all i do is pleasure hunt around my home in southwestern pennsylvania. i am also interested in finding some others to hunt with my cousin and i. my little cousin also has a dog. she is a walker bluetick mix and she is an amazing tree dog.

.22 is as close to perfect as it gets I have been using a revolver for the last ten years less knock down than a rifle but alot easier to carry there are air rifles that will get it done but they are expensive and heavy also not much quieter than .22 rifle the new rimfire .17's work great but ammo cost alot more people in the south have pelt damage with .17's but I live in northern Iowa and it has never been a problem on coon here they are usually bigger than down south

I have a 17 hmr and it is the best gun to just have fun with extremly accurate and would do very little to a hide i shot a rabbit with it one time at about 40 yards and the bullet didnt go all the way through lol but believe me it'll get the job done and its great for just shooting on the range

22 because a pellet gun doesnt have that much power a 22 you only need one shot if you are good like me
