 Post subject: 357 mag for coon hunting

Yeah it would leave a big hole.And besides in most states it is illegal to hunter coon with anything other than a rimfire like a .22 or a .17hmr.

i have one question why? there is no use for anything bigger than a .22 or sometimes a .410 or 20 gauge shotgun and birdshot.

cause ya gotta have fun sometime in yer life.... hahaha one time me and my friend treed a coon (without dogs) under a deer feeder and shot it with a .223 mini 14 just for fun. and boy did it leave a big ol hole in its head (what was left of it).... and then we went and sold the coon to some black folks at a gas station for 10 bucks...

:shock: wow coons watch out. lol ..... it might be fun to try but i wouldnt make a habit out of it. to much damage. before i did i would take a look at the caliber laws in your state. here in ga. no centerfire over.22 for small game. i sometimes use a 410 or 20g if the leaves are still on

A .223 is not only an over kill, but think about how far that bullet travels. What goes up must come down. Plus i dont like to kill the coon dead. I want to sea a fight.

How about this. Shoot the coon with a v-max bullet. That way it most likely doesent pass all the way through when popped with a .223

all i ever use is a 22 thunderbolt or a 22 short but i put the hides up too the quiteter the better i think

You can always use .38 wadcutters, or snake shot with the .357.

the only reason they probably bought it is because i have heard of alot of black people that like to eat coon.
