MY personal favorites are the Remington 700 BDL or a Winchester 70 featherweight each in .30-06. You can't go wrong with either one of those or a Savage or a Browning. The brand of scope is less important than the type. Get at least a 40mm objective lens and a 3-9x mag. My favorite is the Leupold VX-II but you can still do well for less Money. Don't spent any more than that though. It won't make much difference except in cost.

i sure like my .270. shoots flatter than a pancake at 200 yrds. both my dad and i use em for deer, antelope, elk, dad even shot a moose with his back in the day...
cant go wrong with a 308. i saw deer dropped at well over 300 yards with a 308 i also like the 30-06 whatever you like best will work really well for you. good luck.
i have a savage modle 110, 30-06 w/ 56mm pentax scope on it... with a 30-06 you can get bullets anywhere from 55gr. to 220gr. so there is a wide veritety.. personaly if i had to pick any gun to hunt with it would be my 30-30 cause every deer i shot with it has droped in its tracks.

I have to agree with the 30-30 I have had rifles in 243 270 7mm 308 223 and 06 the old 30 30 has taken more deer than all of them together. I always bring it along as a second gun to deer camp. Still trying to get a good one with the super redhawk though.
