I wouldn't trade my 870 for nothin, they are the best alaround shotgun out there, but he's right about that 3 1/2" mag, it hurts you just as much as what was shot.

I have an 870 that shoots 3 and 2 3/4 inch shells and another 870 Super magnum that will also shoot 3.5 inch shells. Love em both and when they start to have trouble ejecting the shells (after years and years) if you clean em they work like new again!! Great, great shotguns. and yes those 3.5 inchers let you know you've shot at something for sure! If the kick gets too much you can get a kick-eez recoil pad. They come in a little leather boot with velcro so you don't have to modify the stock. They only add another 1/2" or so to the LOP so you shouldn't have a problem with it being too long unles you wear really heavy clothing. I use one when I am shooting skeet with my O/U with nothing but a T-shirt on and it really takes the sting out of it even after 6 or 7 rounds

I got a 870 magnum express takes 3 inch shells. The 00 will ruin your day at 100 yards. Mine is tricked out for urban turkeys. It's my hurricane / insurrection SHTF weapon. Heat Shield, Telescopic stock / Pistol Grip & a thing that hold 5 rounds on the stock. Very effective weapon that kicks like a mule.
