i put a known good scope on my henry 22. i couldn't get it to shoot high enough. even with the up/down screwed fully up, the gun kept shooting low. i made a shim and put it under the rear scope mount and that fixed it. i was able to shot accurately and adjust the up/down down a little. this still seems wrong to have to do this. was it me or is there something else wrong?

Sounds like your rings are too high. Short of that, putting in a shim is not the wrong thing to do. As long as it sits snug and doesn't move.

no, the rings are not the look under type nor are they high at all. actually the front of the scope was hard against the rear sight. i had to move the scope a little towards the front to clear the rear sight. i thought maybe the rear sight was forcing the scope up some how. but it wasn't. i used a 1/2" strip of aluminum foil folded to get some thickness.

Hmmm, never put a scope on a Henry so I couldn't hazard a guess short of the one I gave you. I wonder if the receiver slopes back slightly?
In any case Alum foil will work fine as a shim and as long as it aims properly, that is most important.

check your mounts and rings one might be taller than the other. I think that ruger is that way. read the manual and see what is in there
