300 win mag. Because the 300 wby kick like a freakin horse. the WBY Mag is a flatter shooter, but they recoil far worse than a 300 win mag. I just had a chance to buy a lefthanded 300 wby mag last night. the ammo is also ridiculously expensive.

The reason a 300 Win mag is more accurate than the 300 WBY is because the 300 WBY is a free float, you can not adjust to the landings.

I find it hard to say which caliber is the most accurate because there are too many "IF's" in the calculation. The rifle used, the ammo used, the shooter's experience, and ect. all fall into this equation. No one can say with absolute certainty which round is the most accurate with out having more information to base an answer on.

im not sure what you mean by free float unless you are talking about the barrels and i m also not sure what you mean by adjusting the landings

ruff, I'm not speaking for MSG Farley Ret. but, he may be talking about running the bullet out to it's Max OAL & the bullet is still not able to contact the rifling in the throat of the barrel & then back it up one or two thousandths, as most reloads are done for accuracy. I'm not for sure but, I think Weatherby does their barrels like that on purpose in an attempt to combat throat erosion in the barrel. I still can't say, for my self, with certainty that one caliber is more accurate than the other. There are still to many unknowns without having two named rifles, with what(?) length barrels, with what(?) twist, and shooting what(?) weight bullets of what(?) design at what(?) distance and what the shooter's experience is, to base an answer on.

so you are saying that the chamber is too long and it is not possible to get the bullet to "kiss" the lands?

ruff, my post was a "guess" at what MSG Farley Ret. might be talking about in his post. That's why I stated I wasn't speaking for him. I'm like you, I don't know for sure what he meant by "free floated" or "being able to adjust to the landings". Besides the barrel being free floated, what I stated in my post is the only thing that comes to my mind for what he stated. I do know that Weatherby builds their barrels like that due to fighting throat corrosion. A bullet can be ran out enough to touch the lands in the barrel but, then it causes problems feeding from the magazine due to the round being too long.

I bought a weatherby around 15 years ago. It came with a guarntee to hold a 3 shot 1 inch pattern @ 100 yards for life or free barrel replacement

If your not a reloader i would imagine the .300 Win would be the better choice. More loads to choose from.

Russell I agree on the 300 WIN. being the better choice but, that doesn't necessarily mean it's the most accurate. There are good & bad in both if it's looked at close enough. I would take the 300 WIN. on just the price of the ammo alone if a choice had to be made. I have found the 300 Weatherby MAG. to be an accurate rifle though. Most folks that shoot any of the Weatherby MAG.'s very much will end up reloading for the rifle to keep ammo costs down, I know I did. With high prices on everything in today's world, there has to be somewhere to try and even the costs out.
