i am considering the purchase of a .22 ram jet at a local-ish auction in may i was wondering how hard it is to find ammo for this type of caliber? or would i most likely have to reload the brass? also i was wondering what the ballistics are like?

the model of the firearm is HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON M158 Topper

What you have found is a .22 Remington jet. Let me put it to you this way. Unless you want to pay $2/ round from Buffalo arms, get a custom made die from Redding or Forster, or buy a case forming die from Redding and make your own I'd say avoid it. The cartridge is a necked down .357 case and hasn't been made in nearly 40 years.

A .270 would be a much better choice. More versatile, better ballistics and much cheaper ammo/reloading. Plus you cannot beat a BDL for accuracy.

Depends on how much it is used. Check the bore carefully. Get a small light if you have to. Age doesn't have to mean that the bore is a mess. Just inspect it thoroughly as you can, you should be OK. Getting one of those odd ball calibers is just too much of a pain in the rear and will have little resale value if you ever try to sell it. If it looks like it has been abused, then you should avoid it. If it has been well cared for, then you should be OK.

the auction people have pictures of the most part of the firearms up for sale and to me it looks like it just came out of the box. but im young and havent hunting for more then 3 years so ill put a link up and if you wouldnt mind you could take a look at it and tell me what your thoughts are on the BDL

http://www.simpsonauctions.com/images/May31/325.htm

the M700 BDL is listed as "like new condition"

the below link is to the firearms up for sale if you wouldnt mind skimming the list to see what calibers/rifles are decent for coyote/deer hunting and posting them back on here i'd really appreciate it as the firearms i own right now are a lee enfeild mk ll thats being sportized in 303 and i dont really like it that much and winchester model 67 .22 single shot thats from the 70's maybe 80's but i love that thing lol
im looking to expand my varmint rifle collection lol any help on cheap/decent rifles that can be used on anything from groundhogs to coyotes would be greatly appreciated ....i can always use my ole 303 for deer

It certainly looks nice, Hard to tell from a photo, but it doesn't seem to have any obvious flaws. What is this guy's reputation? If it is a good one, then I'd take him at his word. If you can bid low, you might get yourself a good deal.

Well if it were me, I'd start at $400. Don't go more than $525. That is the going rate for one in Exc condition.
