I am looking for info on a model 916 s&w pump gun. The gun is in fair shape. I was wandering the value of the gun and when it was manufactured. It has a very long barrell measures 36" from the tip to the chamber and is 3" full choke. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris "groundhawg" Sallie

Hi,

The S&W 916 is worth between $100 and $200 depending on condition. They are not exactly a shining moment in S&W's illustrious history. From what I understand, they were plagued with "numerous and cascading problems". they were made in the early 70's in a separate facility in Springfield, Mass. and were based on an Eastfield design. Sounds like some kind of trap or waterfowl gun, although I'd hate to drag that thing through the woods.

Unless you want a cheap beater, I'd suggest you pass on it.

bubbasbbq has the value about right. Condition is the biggest factor in buying any firearm. There was a S&W model 916A and a S&W model 916T. The difference being one was a take down version and the other wasn't. Noble made this same shotgun but called it the model 60. The most of them that I've seen shot pretty good at card shooting matches & were good game taking shotguns. As stated, they weren't one of S&W's strong points. Parts can be hard to find at times for them.
