I shoot a Walther P 22 which can be purchased wirh a laser built to mount right on it. It is the best mount system I have seen and would take a real blow to knock it off aim point. It is also easy to adjust. Others I have been around con't mount as securely and are harder to adjust.

How do you go about sighting in a laser on a handgun?
How good do lasers work for coonhunting in states where they are legal to use?
Couple year ago 2 coonhunters were showing me their lasers on their revolvers pointing the gun up in a tree(at night).. The laser beam hit some thick fine brushy limbs & beam broke into dots all over that brushy area. Is this common for lasers or was something wrong with their lasers. I know they had cheap lasers. I lost interest in them right there. Don't see much of the lasers in magazines any more. Farmboy-1

My present laser is on a Walther P-22 and was made especially for this pistol. Its a nice setup. Instructions for sighting it in come with the laser but basicly lasers are ajusted by tightening or loosening small set screws or allen screws. No nore complicated or difficult than sighting in a scope.
You were standing off to the side and that is why you were seeing so many broken dots. When you are directly behind a laser there is liottle such problem. Try a good one. While I have other seapons for coon hunting I still use the laser nearly every night I go hunting.
