I think red dot scopes can be very nice, it is easy to aquire your target. The only thing i would suggest is don't get a cheap one if your going to do it. It is like any kind of scope you get what you pay for.

I have a cheap red dot scope on my 10/22 and it's been great for shootin' coons. It's a Tasco and cost me about $35.00. The only thing is the scope has no magnification if that will be a problem for ya.

I also have a red dot scope on my 10/22 and love it. Also have one on a ruger 22/45 pistol and couldn't be more accurate with it.

What I wouldn't give for a red dot scope! When I'm out in the field I'm alone almost all the time which means I can't really spot the coon through my cross-hairs (which means no shot) since nobody is shining it. Even when the coon's low enough for my light to shine his eyes I'm still guestimating exactly where my cross-hairs are, which isn't necessarily in the coon's best interest, and hence, no shot.

Does any of the scopes mentioned, slide directly on a .22 rail? The only one I have been able to find is one by Gamo and it is rather cheaply made. I purchased an Accu Site and it fit the Weaver rail. Had to purchase an adapter and that raised the site about 3/4 inch. When I look in the site, I have to put my chin on the stock to see through it. Makes it awkward to shoot.

Try an ADCO. I think they make one to fit a weaver type rail

Most of the red dot sites have the Weaver rail. I would like to find a good one that will fit the .22 rail. That way it will be on the right site plain when I put the gun up.

I have used the BSA Red Dot for awhile. I like it. My only problem I get stupid and don't turn it off and run the batteries down.

A good choice for a red dot, is the ones made by Aimpoint. They are used by the military and are tough as nails. They can also go 10,000 hours of continuous ilumination on one battery i do believe. Probably one of if not the best choice out there. Alittle on the pricey side but worth it if you want a red dot sight.
