I have never used them for coon but they work great for deer. the batteries last a long time as long as you turn them off at the end of the hunt. If you get one get the smallest dot you can get, a 3 or 4 moa. would work great.

They are illegal in FL? Wow, I never would have guessed. I've only used a red dot once or twice. Certainly takes a little getting used to. I had some trouble and found I was better with open sights. Like anything else, with practice, that would change.

It's considered more sporting to poach with open sights. Just kidding. Goes along with using a weak battery to shine them with.

I have mixed emotions about them. I have an Acu-site brand of projection sight. It stays pretty true. The problem I have is it only is made to fit Weaver grooves, which are wider than .22 rails. I paid 20 bucks for an adapter to mount it on a .22. In doing so, it raised the sight an extra inch or so above the gun. Now instead of resting my cheek on the stock, I have to lay my chin on the top of the stock to get a sight picture. They say that it doesn't matter where in the optic you have the dot, it does. It is harder to place the dot in the center each and everytime than if you are able to rest your cheek on the stock. That means it is easy to have some strays just off target. Cheaper Than Dirt sells a Gamo brand sight that fits .22 rails for about 10 bucks. I bought a couple, not bad for the price, but is easier to knock out of line.

We are not allowed to use a laser projection. I was checked by our local warden about a year and a half ago and he didn't say anything about the Accu-site on the gun. Of course, I didn't point it out and ask him about it. lol

in Alabama the law states the no weapon used for hunting shall have a laser beam that is projects forward of the weapon, so red dot scopes are legal..
