They are very cool, Mahoney! It's a laser that puts a tiny red dot where your bullet will go. Provided you have it sighted in right. LOL
I inevitably bang the scope as hard as I can the first night out after spending an afternoon sighting it in. I won't bang the durn thing again until after the next time I make the time to drive to where I can spend 2 hours sighting it in again. Hate that.

Kyra, the best shot I ever had on a coon was alone last Fall (aren't they all, LOL) holding the light in one hand and the 22 in the other...both arms were going numb from holding the rifle up so long trying to coordinate the aim (without a sight, because it was knocked sideways) and keeping the light on the coon...I think the coon figured this one doesn't have a snowballs chance, he was pactically falling out the tree leaning over the limb watching me teeter as I leaned against an old tractor. Huck was finished tapping her toes and had curled to nap (she gets behind me when I have the rifle in my hands)

This is an advantage of coonhunting alone...don't have to worry about looking like a total dork and taking your time doing it

i use a truglo red dot scope on my s&w 22a.....its bulky but im fine with that....it has 11 powers for the red dot and when i shoot them out...i hardly ever have to go over level 5....11 is too bright for night time shooting.;...love it to death compared to a scope or any other red dot...it also has a 2x magnification...which is all one shoud need

I say its just more stuff to go wrong. If anything look in to some true glow sites. The gap in the sites is smaller and easier to line up. then with the glow dots you dont worry so much about lining up the sites. I use a mark II with a 10 inch barrel. works great

I have a BSA red-dot on mine. It's not a scope, just throws the laser dot. I think it cost me $30 at Gander Mtn like 5 years ago. Don't know a model number. Put it between their eyes and it's lights out.

One tip if you go this route....it has a push button on top to turn the laser dot on. If you put it in a soft gun case, it's not to hard to bump the case and have the unit turn on, killing the batteries. I duct taped a small block of just slightly higher than the button on top of the unit so that gets bumped instead of the on-button. You also want to check it every few hunts. If it's in your dog box getting bumped around, it can get knocked off target a touch. It just takes an allen wrench and the two-shot sight in to get it back on.

i have an older model simmons red dot. I used open sights my whole life up until about a month ago when i traded for the red dot. Got it sighted in and i can pick which eye i wanna knock out, or if i want them out alive. Couldnt really do that with open sights andthe coon at the top of a tree. I would recomend it to anyone

I had a Bushnell 1X32 trophy red dot on my S&W 22-a. Great optics for the money. Had it on my 10 gauge turkey gun for a couple of years, so I know they will take a lot of punishment.
