What caliber & bullet works good on cats? Also do you shoot for the chest or head? Thanks!

are u askin for callin them in or when runnin with hounds? with hounds id use a 22lr u dont want a pass thru and shoot a dog. if your callin one in any coyote round would do a fine job...22=250 is a great gun fer that..223 will also do a fine job...u could use bigger guns but if your hide huntin u wouldnt want to.

300 win mag will do the trick

or on a better note use something like a 22-250, 223,243 etc

I was thinking more along the lines of a .416 rigby.

If it is good enough for Cape Buffalo, it is good enough for Bobcat!
:D

What about a Nitro Express? I think the .600 bullet is about the same size as the average cat.

And weighs about the same.

Wouldn't the Nitro kick too hard?

I would use a scoped 22 mag or 17 mag. Shoot for the chest. If you try to get to close they will bail sometimes. A chest shot they will probably stay up and just fall out limp. Head shots fall out either stone dead or really angry on your dogs. JMO

Some guys use 22 lr and some use 12 ga with #2 thru #4 buckshot.
