I like my Ruger 10/22 it has synthetic stock and ss barrel. I chose that combo due to the fact that our hunting conditions (at night in and the swamps) are detrimental to wood stocks and blued barrels. Always shoot to kill (one shot one kill) in the dark it way be that you don't kill every one.

Hey Big Bend, Ya gotta love those Peep sights! My Uncle had an old Remington Pump .22 with a cut barrel and a peep sight installed. man, if you could get in that sight, you hit it! I wish I knew where it ended up. Probably in some relative's closet getting rusty It was easy and fun to shoot

I know Bigbend. Good luck trying to find a good used one. the only ones I've been ever able to find are pretty much smooth bores now I don't like the new Remington's and they are way too pricey for a .22!

What brand is your 17hmr? I got a henry varmint express. I just got it but havent shot it yet. I probably will tomorrow though. I think that a 17 would do more damage on the coon than a .22 would but I think the 17 would gurantee a swift fast kill.

My 17 is a Savage bolt actio with a varmint scope. It does do a lot more damage, but usually only takes 1 shot.
