There is a bill in the house and senate, hr 137 and s261 that will make selling tapes of coonhunts, crossing state lines to attend ukc hunts and other coonhunting activities a felony. Just thought someone would want to know. This information can be viewed at http://www.govtrack.us/congress/committee.xpd
The HSUS wants people to think this is just about cockfighting, but it includes all aspects of animal fighting and videos and magazines.

Maybe I am reading a different bill than you but the one I found states:

Quote:
Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act of 2007 - Amends the federal criminal code to prohibit: (1) sponsoring or exhibiting a bird in a fighting venture in a state where it would not otherwise be in violation of the law, only if the person knew that any bird in the venture was knowingly bought, sold, delivered, transported, or received in interstate or foreign commerce for such purpose; or (2) knowingly sponsoring or exhibiting in an animal fighting venture any other animal that was moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Prohibits knowingly: (1) selling, buying, transporting, delivering, or receiving, for purposes of transportation in interstate or foreign commerce, any dog or other animal to participate in an animal fighting venture; (2) using interstate mail service for commercial speech promoting an animal fighting venture except as performed outside the limits of the states (with an exception for bird fights in states whose laws allow them); or (3) selling, buying, transporting, or delivering in interstate or foreign commerce a knife, gaff, or other sharp instrument to be attached to the leg of a bird for use in an animal fighting venture.

Increases the penalties to a fine and up to three years' imprisonment for violations.

I can't see where selling tapes of coonhunts, crossing state lines to attend ukc hunts and other coonhunting activities a felony.

Coon Hunting is legal...................Dog fighting is illegal probably in every state.

Please post the Bill that would make that a felony.

No Kennel Clubs allow coons to be shot out during comp events during kill season or closed season. Rules state you are not allowed to carry guns.

I never hunted in the club hunts, but from what i have heard that is a good rule. It would keep people from getting shot out of anger. Here in Kentucky we have a dog fighting law on the books, it clearly states 4-legged animals in the law, but every once in a while the HSUS gets a chicken show raided because of cruelty to animals. But they get chicken houses, slaughter houses, kennels, etc on all kinds of rules and regulations that most people havent heard of. When they take a person to court the person has to spend time and money fighting it or let it happen to them. No matter how the law reads, if it has not been tested in court it has no precidence.
I dont agree with everything that goes on in the world, i think that if someone owns animals that they should be responsible and take care of them. But i dont think that 3 years of jail time and a felony conviction for any animal charge is justice. a person can rape another person, or burn someones house, and sometimes kill someone and not get that much of a penalty. Anyway, i was looking into legislation this morning and found were they had changed that law. they had a reason or they wouldnt have done it.
good luck in your endeavors

What you all are not understanding is if you keep turning a blind eye to bills like this right now it is chicken men and game dog men they are after. They have already singled out the bay dogs in most states. Some states you can't hunt with dogs..Or if you can still hunt dogs and get caught on private property you get fined. I haven't met a dog yet that can read! How would you like to sitting around your local coon club with your family or in your back yard training a puppy and have someone come in and tell you are doing is wrong.. That is the whole point of this stoppong this bill and others like it before we have no rights left. Not everyone coon hunts, bear hunts, owns game fowl rodoe's. ect.. All of these groups need to ban together for there rights. If you let them single you out because it is not something you perticularly do or it does not specifically pertain to you they will have it were no one can hunt anything with a dog. They will come after the dog hunters next, check it out in other states they are already starting to regulate it.

I totally agree with you if we dont, all hunters an chicken men stick together, we all will suffer in the long run,The first thing for everyone to do is join the NRA thats a start, us hunters need our guns, an back the cockfighters, because we will need their support in a matter of time,

I can't agree there. The people who are fighting roosters where it is illegal are breaking the law already. I can't back them or support them. Those who do it where it is legal - I may disagree but I'll stand up for you because it is allowed where you are. I totally disagree that hunters and those who pit fight any kind of animal should be lumped together. Those animals have no chance to escape and no hope of a future living out their natural lives in the wild whereas the ones being hunted in a fair chase manner do have that chance. Hunters and pit fighters are not the same at all.

My roosters are fought were legal Mexico Louisiana Guam Philippines’

my hounds are hunted were legal and when legal Idaho bear lion bobcat coon Oregon coon bobcat I buy out of state when I hunt Oregon or just loan one or 2 of my dogs to my friends who live in Oregon for the seasone

some people don’t understand when they passed the laws in WA on the hounds if they did not pass it right Away directly they were going to attach it to the chicken Bill and pass it at the same time but they got it passed when they wanted it but both bills passed making it illegal to hunt dogs on anything but coon unless you are native Americans in the state of Wa and turning ##*%* fighting from a mistomenor to a felony.

They did the same thing in Oregon but they were able to keep the bobcat hunting strange thing.

the point is they get the chickens first in all these states then they go after the dog hunting like new Mexico right know they are making it illegal to fight roosters well kiss lion hunting and bear hunting with hounds good buy in the next 10 yrs in new Mexico. we should start doing like what Louisiana does to protect there chicken fighting. get a war chest together in each state a war chest is $$$$$$$$$ in the states that we still have a foot hold in like Idaho, New Mexico, Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, NC and SC and more because all these states still have one or 2 big game animals to hunt bear and cougar or one or the other that hound men can still hunt and are legally allowed to hunt .

like the clubs that are already in these states have one big get together and have one big big game field trial and people donate stuff from anything from dogs and puppy’s to anything dog related shirts dog medicines dog boxes leads collars tracking equipment any thing dog related ECT and auction it of and put a most of the money in a savings account when the time comes there will be money to fight with and hire lawyers not just one but a team or fleet better to be reedy know then to just sit there and take a beating later 5 or 12 and let them work together or to teams . We got to keep are big game hunting with hounds were we got it know lion bear bobcat coyote’s because once they get these things. They get your dear elk hunting and coon hunting with hounds and anything else that is hunted or fished. . my email roosterman182002@yahoo.com

more info on roosters most roosters get to live 12 months to 2 yrs before they are ever pitted and in that time most are treated like the best race horses are treated some are not but most are just like people and there hounds most are treated excellent with dignity but some are not a lot of people use them hounds just for $ and don’t give a @#&$ about the hounds during the off seasone. When the time comes to pit them they are pitted with a rooster of the same weight no rooster can be hever then 3 onces and be mached with the other rooster that is aganst the rules and wearing the same weapons be it knives or gaffs or in Porto rico also legal postizas just an artificial version of the roosters natural spur. well they are pit most of the time one wins one dies but some times one runs chose not to fight well no one dies that fight but that rooster will probly go in someone’s stew pot that is legal what is the difference they still die . but if a rooster lives and wins 3 or 6 fights he gets to live yrs and yrs as a breeder which I have roosters at my farms that are 14 yrs old. and if you have ever sene a ##*%* fight the roosters pited any were from 4 to 12 feet away from each other and they run twoard eaach other and start fighting. i in know whay condone dog fighting thou those dogs are traned to fight roosters are not traned to fight if one gets lose on my farm from his cage or string he will go to the very next rooster and start fighting tru the wire or with the next rooster on the cord a cord is like tying you hounds up but a cord goes on a roosters leg above the spur and he is tied to his own house just like many hounds are . my baby chick start killing each other at 4 wekks old and have to be separated or put in biger pens so they can have more room a lot of time we let them run free range andabout 8 months old sometimes six we have to start catching the baby roosters and pening them up as they start fighting and kiling each other whats that difrnece they arnt pited in a ring but they are still killing each other. also fighting roosters get to live a lot longer 12 months -2-3 yrs
compared to the avrege chicken you eat at KFC they live from 6 to 8 weeks then they go to the slughter house. were they kill 22 millon chickens a day across the world. and what is the difrnece of a racoon geting and eating one off my roosters and eating them there still just as dead as they woud off been if they woud have killed one another in the pit.also what you dont know is werew your eggs come from many times those hacherys that hatch those leghorn chicks that sell the chicks to the farmer that riases your egss and sell them to your supper market hwo you buy them from well the farmer only buys hens what does the hatchery do with all the roosters that hatch out of them eggs well they sex the chicks the hens get shiped to the factory farmer and the roosters chicks get gassed and killed at one day old....... something for you to think about.....

In states where cockfighting is illegal who made it illegal? Did the people vote on it, no they did not it was baned by rich politicions who line there pockets with hsus and peta money. It just happened in Louisiana. the last of the 48 fall to this act of tyrany. Do you have chickens? If I let my roosters loose to live there lives free in the wild , only one would survive! They will fight in the wild same as in the pit. Further more it is about freedom! I know ,we all have never experienced freedom but I have read about it in history books!

Roosters in the wild stake out territories for themselves. They don't all just sit in a small area and fight to the death, they spread out just like other territorial animals.

American Game fowl are not wild birds! They will fight in the yard till only one is left. Cockfighting is like anything else, it is what someone likes. Coon hunting is not liked by all does that give them the right to tell us we cannot have the freedom to practice our sport. Same fight different battle ground.

How is it the same? Fighting birds do not have the option of escaping to live their lives. They fight and die and a few get to breed because of what some people want. I cannot agree that it is anything like hunting unless you want to compare it to a canned hunt in a small enclosure. Most hunters don't approve of canned hunts either.

It is not legal in most states. You need to get the laws changed. Until you do that successfully people who fight game birds will not have an easy time gaining support for their cause. Maybe you could present the financial benefits to the government officials. I know in my state if it makes a few million bucks and is taxable the officials don't care whether it helps or hurts the land or the people or how bad it makes the state look, they are all for it. We have so much toxic dumping, taxes, casinos, sports betting, welfare motels, and bars here it is a frightening place to live. The only way to get a law passed here is to somehow convince the lawmakers the state will profit from it.

The way they are simular is it is a sport that someone likes. Some thing shooting a animal with a gun is not fair, does not matter realy wheater it is fair or not. It is what you like to do. As to the Politics. I gave up on Goverment a long time Ago it is all about the Money. If not your local farmer or Coonhunter Would be running for President or Govenor. America is a Dictatorship like most all other countries. The only difference is america is run by a group not just a single dictator. Thats why here in Mississippi most fowlkes just mind there own business and do there own thing. As long as you are not bothering anyone no one really cares. The other thing to remember is Cockfighting is a rural sport. It is usually the city dwellers that put up such a fuss about it.
