I have a 16 month old redbone and a 5 month walker both are females and i have showed the redbone 2 coons in a cage and she barks and barks and trees them and stays at the tree, i have only showed her 2 because i no that can hurt more than help but i have trapped others and let them go way away from her and she hasnt seen me do this and i turn her out and take her almost ther and she finds the track and will run it and find the coon but if i dont do this i hunt her and she doesnt find anything but she hunts hard do you think it possible that there isn't that many coons in the part of woods i take her to and if i take her with my buddies dogs she doesnt want anything to do with the others dogs tree if they tree a coon is she just an independent dog

Well From my experience wich aint much Im new at this but scouting during the day finding tracks and such would increase your chances but if your trapping them you should be able to tree are you trapping con that you scouted or just in the trash can or something like that. corn fields are my weapon of choice. Dont know if this will help you or not hope it does

it takes many nights and alot of exposer to the coons before most young dogs will even attempt to find and run one when just cast into the woods alone to go find one.

i have been trapping the coons from my grandmas and being bring them to my house. I also no that a redbone is the longest taking breed to coon hunting so with her being 15 months old is that normal for her not to be hunting yet

as for feed buckets or baits that ussually works pretty good for getting pups goin. get a bucket with a lid cut a small hole in the bottom of one of the sides just big enough to fit a paw in find a spot where there should be coon and tie it about 8 inches to a foot off the ground (opposumes cant balance on there back legs good enough to get into it off the ground so you eliminate them) and cheap dog food and cheap maple syrup or something sweet mixed in. works for me should work for you hope that helps. oh see if its legal.

It's illigal to bait deer In Michigan and I don't want all my bait being eaten by other critters so when I get home I'll post pics of the feeder buckets I use on my training property
